Richard and I have been married for 5 years! I can’t hardly believe it.

Everyone I say that to can’t believe it’s been 5 years already. I love this picture of us getting married in Sedona surrounded by the beautiful red rocks.
We decided to do a special trip to celebrate going to New York, Paris, and London and we just got back Thursday night at midnight. And as I look back over these past two fabulous weeks, the theme was the same in each place:
- Eating
- Drinking
- Egypt
Sort of a strange combination, yes? But these are three things we love and are very good at (especially eating and drinking!) and which are a huge part of our life.
So we ate and drank our way through New York, Paris, and London and spent a bunch of time at the Egyptian wings of the Met, the Louvre, and the British Museum.

Even though I go to the Met every year before our Egypt trip, we just couldn’t go to New York and not see it again, it’s just so moving every time.

We love Tao, the food is so spectacular. They have a 2 story high statue of Buddha – it’s hard to see how big it is in this picture, but it’s so beautiful.
And the second photo is Buddakhan, in Chelsea – an amazing, huge place with incredible lobster rolls!

We had this fabulous apple tart at L’Avenue, which is the cool restaurant in Saks Fifth Avenue. It turns out the chef from L’Avenue in Paris was just there and was very impressed with this tart. It is fabulous!

Then onto Paris. We went to Spain and Paris for our honeymoon, so it was so wonderful to be back there again. It was so bittersweet to see Notre Dame, since it burned three years ago, but so hopeful to see the reconstruction that is happening.

I love Paris so much and going to the Louvre is always so overwhelming. The Egyptian wing is absolutely incredible with so many items that I pray will someday be returned to their rightful place back in Egypt.
And the food! Watch this very short video that is from a French country cooking restaurant. There were no tourists there, only locals (our neighbors who go to Paris regularly for their clothing business turned us onto this place). They make aligot, a combination of mashed potatoes and cheese. Oh my Goddess!

Have you seen the movie “Something’s Gotta Give” with Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Keanu Reeves? That movie ends at Le Grand Colbert Restaurant and we love this movie and this restaurant so much!

I love Veuve Clicquot champagne and Richard made special arrangements for us to take the train to Reims and visit the cellars of Veuve Clicquot. The name in French means “the widow Clicquot.” I love this story because she was widowed at 27, took over her husband’s fledgling winery, and turned it into an incredible success. She became one of the first female business owners in Europe to be tremendously successful.

And Reims is the home of the cathedral where almost all of the French kings have been crowned since the year 1025. Joan of Arc was there to see the dauphin crowned as king. It’s a very sacred place and the history and the energy is overwhelming.

And then onto London and of course, the passing of Queen Elizabeth added a huge element. People were really grieving and it was so amazing to talk to people and hear them talk about how much they loved her. It was so wonderful to be on the route of her procession (the street with the flags) and to hear these heartfelt outpourings.

Richard had never been to the British Museum before, so it was incredible for him to see the Rosetta Stone. When you realize what a huge find that was back in the 1800s – the stone that made it possible to finally translate the Egyptian hieroglyphics and make all the carvings and papyrus suddenly come to life. It’s just staggering. Again, my prayer is that the British will do the right thing and return the Rosetta Stone back to Egypt.

I think my favorite (bizarre meal) was at the Duck and Waffle. Yes, it was a waffle with a leg of duck on top of the waffle and an egg on top of that. Such a British dish and it was great!
So that’s how we ate and drank and Egyptized our way through New York and Paris and London. And all with my best friend (and favorite travel partner), Richard.
What an amazing five years this has been. My experience of love has reached a level I never thought was possible.
